Never trust an HVAC technician to do an electrician’s job

As an HVAC technician, I learned a long time ago that it is my job to worry about the HVAC units, and that is it.

I don’t try to do the job of someone else when I am only responsible for HVAC units. There are many other jobs out there. You may be a carpenter, an electrician, a plumber, or any other number of things. You can stick to your job, and I will stick to my job as an HVAC technician. I didn’t use to be this way. I hated waiting for other trade people to finish their work so that I could proceed with the installation of the HVAC units. It isn’t easy trying to install a completely new furnace or air conditioner, and sometimes, we want to get the job done as quickly as possible. I remember one instance where we had all of the HVAC units connected and hooked up. The only thing that we needed was a power source for the HVAC unit hooked up. It seemed that the electricians connected ran every wire but the one for the HVAC unit. We had called them often, but they wouldn’t answer. Finally, I got impatient and decided that I was going to hook up the HVAC unit myself. Everything was going well until I found out that the electrical box was hooked up to electricity. I shocked myself very badly, and I learned that I should just stick with my job as an HVAC technician. You should never trust an HVAC technician to do the job of an electrician, let alone any other trade worker.
