Our work environment for the past year has been crazy as well as stressful.
We all work in a medium sized office as well as instead of cubicles, we’ve done an open office layout inside.
This basically means that we have open desks with no separate spaces. Our management was convinced that this open layout would improve our productivity, but the opposite has happened. I suppose that in some sense they were expecting everyone to work more diligently since they were at risk of being watched or seen at any hour due to the lack of cubicles and walls to hide web browsing. Management insisted that it would improve employee communication as well, but all of us are working over the telephone from the beginning of our shifts until the end. This combined with the open office layout means that everyone is chatting over one another in an effort to hear themselves as well as their clients over the telephone. In the process, the volume of the room gets ridiculously noisy. This is coupled with the bad a/c unit that makes almost everyone uncomfortably cold as well as freezing during our shifts. Thankfully, management finally broke down as well as decided it was time to buy a different central a/c unit for the office. I suppose that their own personal offices were beginning to grow as equally uncomfortable as the main portion of the office building. The replacement was inevitable after the old AC unit took a turn for the worse the other week among record temperature highs for the year. This modern a/c unit couldn’t have come at a better time, as well as despite the constant sounds, at least we’re no longer shivering every single day at work. This is somewhat of a real improvement.
